Terna, Italy’s national electricity transmission grid operator, has launched a new initiative focused on employee well-being, designed to help its workforce achieve greater balance between personal and professional life. The Group, led by CEO Giuseppina Di Foggia, is reinforcing its commitment to “promoting policies and measures in the area of welfare,” with a programme that puts people first in the company’s strategy for a just and inclusive transition.
The new well-being programme is accessible around the clock and provides employees—and their family members—with tailored services across three areas: emotional, physical and practical support. In partnership with an international leader in the field, Terna is offering one-on-one sessions with certified professionals to address a wide range of needs, from mental health and lifestyle coaching to legal and financial guidance.
Emotional support includes personalised sessions with clinical professionals to help individuals manage psychological stress, improve time management and assist new parents returning to work. Physical well-being is promoted through wellness coaching in sport and nutrition, while practical support covers everyday needs such as financial advice, legal assistance and caregiving solutions like babysitters or day-carers.
All services are provided with strict privacy protection and are available via multiple digital platforms. A tailored version of the programme is also available to managers, helping them lead teams more effectively and offering coaching on leadership skills.
Welfare and Equality in Terna’s People Strategy
The well-being programme is part of a broader effort outlined in Terna’s People Strategy, which puts the company’s 6,500 employees at the centre of its operations. The goal is to create “an inclusive working environment which opposes discrimination, fosters merit and respect, and aims to ensure the well-being of all workers.” Recent steps also include a significant agreement with Trade Unions focused on improving the existing welfare system, particularly for working parents.
Among the key elements of the agreement is the introduction of an additional 7 days of paid paternity leave on top of statutory entitlements. It also includes a 15% increase in financial support for parental leave beyond what is mandated by law, expanded paid leave allowances for serious personal or family circumstances, and daycare reimbursements covering up to 60% of expenses.
This strategy underlines Terna’s investment in the values of “diversity, equality and individuality,” aiming to create a workplace where every individual is empowered to contribute to the company’s sustainability goals. By addressing the challenges of work-life integration and emotional health, Terna is not only improving quality of life for its staff but also reinforcing its role as a socially responsible leader in the energy transition.
With people at the heart of its transformation, Terna continues to show that well-being, inclusion and innovation are not separate tracks—but interconnected paths toward a more resilient, human-centred energy future.
