The European Bioplastics Conference (EBC25) will return to Berlin on 2 and 3 December 2025, marking two decades of international dialogue on material innovation and the growing relevance of biopolymers in Europe’s ecological transition. Hosted at the Titanic Hotel in a hybrid onsite–online format, the event will bring together companies, researchers and policymakers at a moment of strategic change for the sector, shaped by new EU frameworks on bioeconomy, circularity and updated rules on biobased content and biodegradability. Organised by European Bioplastics, the conference is positioned as a key platform for assessing technological progress and policy alignment across global markets.

With the EU bioeconomy currently valued at over EUR 2.3 trillion and bioplastics production projected to surpass 6 million tonnes worldwide by 2028, EBC25 is expected to play a decisive role in contextualising market growth with regulatory evolution. The event’s hybrid nature aims to increase participation and knowledge circulation among industry and civil society, reinforcing Europe’s ambition to drive innovation in sustainable materials.

Regulatory updates, market dynamics and global perspectives

The 2025 programme will provide a comprehensive overview of the sector’s state of play. Sessions will address mass balance approaches, compostability standards, recyclability pathways and the emergence of high-performance solutions designed for low-impact industrial applications. A specific focus will be devoted to the finalists of the European Bioplastics Innovation Award, highlighting technological advances from start-ups and research centres.

International dialogue will be central to the conference agenda. Contributions from Europe, India, China and Australia will compare regulatory trajectories and development models for biopolymers, underlining the need for harmonised standards to support global market expansion. With global bioplastics demand increasing at an estimated annual rate of 17 percent, the event is expected to offer data-driven insights into production capacities, feedstock availability and end-of-life treatment performance.

On 1 December, EBC25 will also host a free parallel event dedicated to bioplastic packaging design, reflecting the strategic importance of sustainable packaging in achieving EU circularity targets and reducing dependency on fossil-based plastics across sectors such as food, healthcare and retail.

A strategic hub for networking and industry coordination

Beyond its technical sessions, the conference will serve as a strategic networking hub. Each year, EBC gathers around 400 senior decision makers from across the value chain, together with research institutes, NGOs and international brands. The 2025 edition will maintain this strong networking component through informal meetings, dedicated exhibition spaces and digital matchmaking tools designed to facilitate cross-sector collaboration. Registration, exhibition options and logistical information are already available on the official website.
