Farhad Mukhtarov

Farhad Mukhtarov is Assistant Professor of Governance and Public Policy at the International Institute of Social Sciences (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam. Dr Mukhtarov’s professional career developed at universities in England, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan and Singapore. His research can be summarised in three broad themes: water governance, politics of knowledge, and theories of policy-making. Geographically, his work has covered Western Europe, the larger Mediterranean, and Central and Southeastern Asia. He currently develops research on water diplomacy and governance in the South Caucasus. He was a lead author of the UN Environment's flagship publication – the Sixth Global Environmental Outlook, published in 2018. In the period 2021-2024, he served as Associate Editor of Environmental Science & Policy, a leading international journal on science-policy interface in sustainability.
