We Have Ruined Three Quarters of the Biosphere

We have entered the Anthropocene epoch. A great deal of research has been carried out to pinpoint a new geological era of the history of Earth, defined Anthropocene because the effects produced by human actions on natural systems are thought to be equivalent to the great geophysical forces that have shaped and modified our planet during its 4.6 billion years of life.

The panorama is so vast that it gave rise to three scientific magazines devoted to the Anthropocene (see the large research programmes on Global Change coordinated within the Future Earth Programme, www.futureearth.org.)
